Dispatches from the wonderful world of weddings
My friends Zanna Hoskins and Kate Reeves do the most totally amazing flowers for your wedding. They’re lovely people and they’re based here in West Dorset. I went over to photograph what they get up to, the other day. Give them a shout if you want your wedding to have colour like no other! Champernhayes Flowers
Another favourite of mine from a wedding in Mapperton House between Bridport and Beaminster in west Dorset. I’m happy to photograph whoever YOU are. Sometimes, people love quiet, gentle, intimate and small weddings and sometimes people love riotously energetic and crazy weddings: I will make the most of whatEVER way you want to celebrate your day. I’m a wedding photographer because I like people. What are YOUR plans?
My memory of my day as photographer at this wedding—of this photograph in particular—was of trying very hard not to scratch the varnished floor as I moved a heavy table to make way for the bride to stand in this sumptuous light. The bride wasn’t aware that I had the caretakers of the house staring me out (making sure I looked after their lovely floor) and that’s as it should be: it’s her day. Springtime is a lovely time to get married—the start of new life etc; nature at its best—and this avenue leading up to Crepe Farm in Symondsbury can be rendered ever so slightly magical with a bit of care and attention. I sent the couple off down the hill and asked them […]
It’s never not in your mind when there’s a zebra-crossing: the Abbey Road cover shot. This photograph was taken in Bridport in Dorset (the wedding reception was being held at The Bull Hotel) and it was a spur-of-the-moment idea (not the most original, but if I got it right then it would at least be an enjoyable and easy-to-read image). The lovely couple were keen on the idea and it was a lovely sunny day. A couple of frames was all it […]
Unbelievably, this wedding, at Mapperton House near Beaminster (near Bridport) in Dorset, was being held at the same time as they were filming Far From The Madding Crowd nearby, although they were not filming on the actual day of the wedding. I took the opportunity of doing a few photographs with the couple set against the carefully designed field sets: that track in the background wasn’t there the week previously. They were up for the idea as we all felt […]
